Baltimore has the chance to experience a little Broadway magic this week as the Tony Award-winning musical Maybe Happy Ending launches its North American tour at the Hippodrome Theatre.

The production runs through Sept. 19, making Baltimore more than just a stop along the way—the city is where this next chapter officially begins.

For local theater lovers, that makes this engagement feel especially exciting. There is something special about being among the first audiences outside of Broadway to experience a production that has already received major recognition and built such a strong following.

Written by Will Aronson and Hue Park and directed by Michael Arden, Maybe Happy Ending earned six Tony Awards in 2025, including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. The production also received honors from the Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, Drama League Awards and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle.

Original Broadway cast members Steven Huynh and Claire Kwon are joining the tour as Oliver and Claire, bringing familiar faces from the Broadway production directly to Baltimore audiences.

The show itself has had an impressive journey. Maybe Happy Ending was written in both Korean and English. The Korean-language version premiered in Seoul in 2016 and went on to win six Korean Musical Awards, including Best Musical. The English-language version later received the Richard Rodgers Production Award before making its U.S. premiere at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre during the 2019–2020 season.

From there, the musical made its way to Broadway, opening at the Belasco Theatre in November 2024. It quickly earned critical and audience praise and was recognized by several major publications as one of the standout theater productions of the year.

Now, Baltimore gets to be part of the show’s story.
